burnt paper, smoke, incense, charcoal, cedarwood, oak bark
An evocative fragrance that fills the air with joy and auspicious wishes for the coming year. Deep notes of dense smoke, flint and burning incense, recall exploding firecrackers during a festive Lunar New Year celebration.
The bright vermilion vessel is printed with 除夕, or Chu Xi, which tells the legend of New Year's Eve. A monster named Xi was said to terrorize villagers on the last night of the lunar year. One day the villagers discovered the monster feared the color red and loud noises, so the tradition of placing red banners and setting off firecrackers began. Chu Xi's literal translation is “to rid the monster” but now represents discarding the old and welcoming in the new.
